How We Met
Dr. Amanda and Dr. Amy first met at TxABA 2022, when Dr. Amy attended Dr. Amanda’s talk on the life, tragedy, and legacy of Feda and Muhammed Almaliti. Dr. Amanda was there to share the heartbreaking loss of her dear friend and her friend’s son in a house fire. Dr. Amy came hoping to find tools she could bring back to her clients, but what she found that day was only the story. At the time, nothing in our field offered practitioners a systematic way to teach and prioritize safety. With Dr. Amy’s research background in fire alarms, prevention, and emergency response, and Dr. Amanda’s lived experience, they realized together they could create what was missing. S.A.F.E.-T. was born out of loss, hope, and a shared commitment to give families and providers the tools they deserve.
